Campfire Stories
| A Brief History of the Fireplace Tool |
 | In the beginning when the first caveman learned he could contain fire by digging a pit and filling it with blazing logs, he realized (painfully) that he needed more than just his bare hands to move those burning logs.
So using the materials at hand (no pun intended) he fashioned a stick with a pointed end and thus the first fireplace poker was invented. A great idea for roasting marshallows but not very effective since WOOD BURNS. |
Then man discovered metals and invented the fork (and the weenie roast). The weenies were delicious. However, he found that logs were not as soft as weenies and couldn't be easily pierced. Many logs were dropped this way (and incidentally, a lot of weenies too).
Then man got a clever idea--if one fork doesn't work, let's try two! Lo and behold, man actually invented a tool that worked, (sort of). STEP 1: Bend over the blazing fire. (Be sure to hold your breath and don't linger too long.) STEP 2: Grasp the flaming log between the two forks and straighten up. (Ohhh, my aching back!) And for a thousand years this was man's tool of choice. Until now... WE HAVE THE LIFT A LOG! |
